Andrés | Weaver

Born in 1964
Originally from Salasaca, Ecuador, where his home- studio is located in the Andes Mountains.

Andrés has been an artisan since childhood. Following the passing of his father, he learned to weave at the age of 12 on a traditional loom, thanks to the guidance of his uncle. Since then, weaving has remained his lifelong profession. He later founded his own handmade tapestry workshop, Curindi Tapestries. Curindi means “treasure of the sun” in Kichwa, his native language.

With the support of his son, Andrés has embraced technology, allowing him to connect with international tourists eager to learn more about the ancestral technique of wooden loom weaving. Each tapestry is designed by him, and the meaning behind the figures and silhouettes reflects the legacy of agricultural traditions, as well as the rich inspiration drawn from the flora and fauna of his homeland.

This artisan technique is deeply rooted in the identity of his town. Andrés is committed to inspiring younger generations to engage with craftsmanship—encouraging curiosity, innovation, and the preservation of this cultural legacy for years to come.

"Our clothing reflects our agricultural roots and our life as artisans. We care for our animals and harvest their fibers with respect, transforming them into threads that we weave by hand. Our land is not just where we live, it is an essential part of who we are."
