Angelica | Wicker weaver

Born in 1991,
Originally from San Salvatore Telesino, Campania Region,
her studio is base in Milan.

A beautiful story of passion and tradition handed down from one generation to another. With Angelica we retraced the places of herchildhood, the green hills of the upper Caserta area where, thanks to her grandfather, she learned the secrets of the weaving technique.

«My grandfather was my teacher. I couldn't help but watch him weave the willows. His hands, so big and rough, but so meticulous. Every gesture was pure perfection. When I decided I wanted to learn this tradition, his directions were straight forward. He weaved and I observed, each step was introduced by a short phrase in dialect while he prepared the basket’s structure.»

«In the morning, as soon as the sun began to illuminate the fields, we had to harvest the willows, reeds and elms. By lunch time we had finished cleaning them and classifying them by size. Whoever came to the house had to silently observe. We focused in the basket production that bonded us so much. I am the only one in the family who decided to learn my grandfather's art and carry it forward, founding my brand Cortreccia out of respect for tradition, for the craftsmanship that characterizes my land, and for an art that must not be lost.»

«Now that my grandfather is no longer here, I weave listening in continuation to his phrases that play over and over mymind.»

«Nature is my belief, I respect it, I live it, I let myself be guided and inspired by walking through the fields, woods and hills of Squille, my family's town»
