Giulia and Antonio | Hand-block print artists

Born in 1990
Originally from Milan and Santa Sofia,
their workshop is based in Santa Sofia, between hills and Apennines.

A deliberate choice, an awareness, and a will to learn an art that creates extraordinary unique textiles, each telling a different story. Every gesture of this method has been repeated in the same way for over 500 years.

In 2017, Giulia and Antonio visited "the hand-block printing workshop, driven by curiosity to understand the behind-the-scenes of this ancient art. What captivated us the most was the color. It was, in fact, the rust hue, which distinguishes Romagnan printing from other hand-printing techniques worldwide, that first charmed us. It's pure alchemy and a color crafted in the workshop with one's own hands, using just three simple ingredients: flour, vinegar, and iron rust."

"We fell in love with the method, the natural color, and the beauty of this artisan tradition. Its humble roots, deeply embedded in the region, fascinated us. It is a slow, simple, rural art that requires few materials, often discarded ones, and the manual skill of the artisan. It has been carried on for 500 years solely in Romagna."

Without inheriting a workshop and the wooden blocks used to create the textiles, we designed everything from scratch, reinterpreting them in our own way with new, geometric, contemporary, and whimsical patterns, giving new life by founding Peromatto."

“We love this art because it perfectly embodies our choice of a simple life, with a calm pace, immersed in the Apennines and nature. A life where we can take care of ourselves and appreciate the beauty all around us”
