Maria Francesca | Gold embroiderer

Born in 1991
Originally from Monza, where her Atelier is located.

An ancient technique, little known to the general public but "fascinating and with an almost alchemical component: an extremely physical and repetitive, almost mantra-like process, resulting in magnificent fabrics with exquisite gold thread sculptures. It felt almost magical to me!" says Maria Francesca, who has studied and mastered this type of embroidery, "used for thousands of years to convey power and solemnity to the most important figures in history.

Gold is a metaphor for divine light that invests the emperor or the pope, conferring transcendental authority

Gold embroidery is closely tied to the symbolic world and heraldry, as over the centuries decorative motifs of plants, flowers, and animals have been developed, becoming metaphors for virtues and ideals."

Maria Francesca founded her brand, Aembrosia. "My goal is to reinterpret gold embroidery in a contemporary way, combining it with other techniques and experimenting in an innovative and free manner. I want to pass on the love for ancient tradition and the ability to reinterpret it, so that the technique becomes a medium for expressing one's artistic and design vision."

Together, we embarked on this journey to design a wall decoration that, in its simplicity, could showcase the rarity and preciousness of this technique, using 24kt gold threads to transform the artwork into a true jewel.

"My city, Monza, is rich in inspiration, particularly in its surface decorations, colors, and materials. I am especially struck by the combination of gold with precious gems and the ancient craftsmanship of the Iron Crown and other Lombard artifacts from the Treasure of Theodelinda"
